One Corner done?!

Well, it has been a long but productive 3 days. Hubby and I have been very busy. Cleaning, moving things in, throwing things out. Setting aside things to go to goodwill... YIKES! It's spring cleaning in the fall. It has needed to be done. I have really changed how I craft. I really don't paint on wood anymore, so it's time to start parting with some of these things.

Anyway, I have one corner done in the gathering room. It's probably not set, but for now I need to move onto other things. So here is a peek on how things look at the moment...

My new red box from Robin at Millstone Mercantile, boy I love this box and it looks great down here! Baker's Cabinet starting to take shape. I have not found where I have hiden everything yet. Though for now I am happy with this corner. Few pumpkins out for fall...
close up shot....

pumpkins in my trencher bowl.. This bowl is HUGE!! My girlfriend found it at a garage sale for $50 bucks! Deal of the year!

Here's a mat I stitched many year's back. Still one of my favorites.

Thanks for taking a quick tour with me. More to come as more gets cleaned and organized.
though the next couple of days I need to take my mom to several doctors appts. as she gets ready for her liver resection. Have a great night! OLM

A Quick teaser!!!!

So much to still do, but I thought I would jump in a give just a quick update!!! It's been very exciting to just get the house set back to old self after almost a year. Watching things FINALLY coming back out of the garage, cleaning them up and putting them in their new homes, really it's almost like we moved.

Though, was a mess, the dust from drywall OMG!!! I spent most of my day yesterday in the front room, polishing the hardwood, dusting blinds and everything else...

So here is the update, almost everything is in the gathering room. Only the computer desk needs to be moved down today.. Hubby came home from this trip about 11 am expecting to have to move the couch, but our son Steven & his buddy moved all the heavy stuff out Thursday night, which was a big help! It only cost me a box of fruit snacks and dinner! Not to bad....

So in the gathering room we played around with moving things around a bit, trying to change things up ... It's hard to do when one has big furniture pieces like we do(because we never measure before we buy) and the room really is long and not super wide...But I think we came up with a new layout that make the room really look a little bigger even with all the "stuff"... of course pictures later... Once everything is completely set....

So here is the front room minus the big leather couch & TV!!!! LOOK at that mess, everything that still needs a home... US prim girls do have the "stuff' LOL!!! Told hubby no more wine until some of this drank, found many wine bottles! LOL This old farm table, don't know why but it really is one of my favorite pieces. I wish it could talk, all the meals that were made on it, the stories it heard... Love that in the one corner it's all chewed up from what I believe was meat grinder attached to it....It's home is in front of the windows... now it just needs a few things...
corner almost cleaned up with the family cabinet.... old shopping cart next to it now...

and a tease, my bakers cabinet in it's new home in the gathering room... Today's chore unpacking boxes in the garage, cleaning thing up and filling this back up! Probably will thin out a thing or 2 along the way...maybe.... off to start have a great day! OLM

oh, ya... pumpkins coming out today too!!! I can't stand it, last year I really couldn't decorate for fall at all, it was SO hard being my favorite time....So I am starting today!

Some before & after's.. and a tease....

This post has a bunch of pictures!!! Really not the ones you might think! LOL....
I was laying in bed this AM, enjoy our first cool crisp morning and reflecting on everything that has taken place at our little homestead in the last year....

This has been a year of change... Just a year ago my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to her liver.. We were just getting over my FIL passing away after failing for the last 2 years and hubby going out to his place pretty much every weekend to help with chores around his farmette he had...

So none of this was even a thought just 12months ago... Well, we knew were doing the gathering room, it was long over do a for a EXTREME makeover...

So anyway hubby was online looking into something when he came across a picture of what appeared to be great house for sale... Lets just say it LOOKED more along the lines of a dream home! So yes we went and looked, as we pulled into the driveway, I turned to him and said, WELCOME HOME!! At that moment I thought we were moving!! Cape cod style, 2 porch's and on a acre of land, who could as for anything more right? WELL....

I just was not in LOVE with the inside. I felt like I had to talk myself into the house. It just didn't feel right. Though bigger then our home now, I was losing space. I was getting a basement, but losing the family room/gathering room. Rooms were smaller and some of my antique pieces weren't going to work. Now that is a problem....

Then there was the fact very little was updated in 30 years... Small bathrooms, now I have what I would consider small bathrooms, but these where smaller AND harvest gold in one, powder blue in another.... Just coming off a major bathroom remodel, I was like ICK!

OK, enough on the house, some of our friends just couldn't understand why we wouldn't go for it....BUT then there is the fact we has such GREAT neighbors here, I am 6 blocks from mom who now has the big "C" and asking me NOT to move.... Then there's hubby, working his butt off, and we are going into a bigger home, new mortgage and he's hoping to retire in 8 to 10? What am I thinking.....

OK, so I am out walking Knuckles one morning and I come home turn to hubby, I have had a brain fart, LOL... What if.... If we were going to spend "X". why not stay, spend way less and do this.....

So our home is a 70's style split level, nothing special, but we have called it home for the last 16 years, but it NEVER was a dream home...Kitchen eating area is so small, no dining room. We entertain a lot so it gets crowded... SO what if we add a 8 x10 eating/dining area off the kitchen.. Leave the kitchen alone, since that was done 7 years ago and still love it....and MAYBE add a front porch onto the house...

So being smart we did a list of pros/cons on moving or adding on.... we felt we could fix all but one thing we hated about the house, which was the long narrow driveway. OK, we can deal with that....

Sorry this is going on forever, like I said I was in a reflecting mood! So we bring in a builder that lives in the area and works on a lot of these homes in the area... Everyone is telling us it will be like $60,000 to do the kitchen and a porch... I'm like this is dead in the water then, not spending that...... So long story kinda short, we can do a 10x10 off the kitchen... No porch to much $$$ and I have to go the Village and ask for zoning change to add it.. what a pain...

So instead we add a addition off the back of the garage for more storage and a little work room for hubby... update electrical to garage and a bigger box in the house.... and took off the old dated brick and add river rock to the front....

SO MUCH MORE HAPPY!!! More comfortable living here, hubby said just the other week, why did we wait so long to do this... Well, kids, sports, life, money? Need I say more...
So I am stealing something I read over at Behind My Red Door's blog awhile back, This might not be my dream home, but IT"S WHERE DREAMS ARE MADE!!! So true, thanks Linda!!!

So as we getting ready to move things into their new home in the gathering room this weekend and get my mom ready for a liver recession in 2 weeks. ( keep your fingers crossed, they believe they can get the cancer out! the live is amazing organ)

This has been one crazy and sometimes painful year... But the end results have been worth it! thanks for taking this part of the journey with me!

So here we go..... Our home Last November as they were taking that UGLY brick off!!!!

Just this AM, sometimes I still have to pinch myself, I am so happy with the new look!
OK, tossed this in... why would I have a powder blue tub in the other house, after it took hubby 2 years of hard work, while helping his dad to do this??????? Again so happy with this bathroom... Downstairs still needs to done, but I think hubby & I both need a little break before we tackle that one!

OK, here is hubby's man cave... Really it's more like a over sized shed... He has wanted this for as long as we have lived here... He has earned it! With the gathering almost done, he can finally play out there and organize it...

OK, as was looking through pictures I came across this one... It's from almost 8 years ago when we completed gutted the kitchen... ICK that was UGLY TOO! LOL

So just a couple of pictures from last October as we broke ground for the kitchen. I could not believe how fast things moved after we decided to do this.. We thought it would happen this Spring, NOPE from the time we decided to do this, about 5 weeks passed until this....what a wild ride!
Look how close they can get that bobcat to the house without hitting the house!

There was a deck here, I went inside for what seemed like a minute and then the deck was gone!

OOPS, sorry about this one, forgot to flip it.... walls on the addition....

There's hubby in November sitting for the first time at the new harvest table we had just picked up! I had always wanted a harvest table, but it would never fit in the old eating area....

OK, here we are today gathering room just ready and waiting... tomorrow I promise

OK, Now I swore I would never show pictures of what the room looked like before! I hated it sooo much! It was ugly, so I just ignored it! Yes I have some great antique pieces down there, but I just kept telling myself they will look some much better once the room is remodeled...
Also, it's hard because this room really is the hub of the home, TV is down there, the computer. This is where we hang out as a family or the boys with their friends...
So here is the room a little over a year ago when Alex turned 21. He is sitting in the folding chair, boys everywhere... just not a pretty room, some pretty things, it just gets lost in the UGLINESS of the room..... Enough said, that look is long gone! :)

OK, so here's the front room, soon to be my keeping room... This is were the leather couch had to come with the TV... First time a TV has ever been in this room.. It's been cramped to say the least... Can't wait to fix this room back up too!
In all of this I really wanted new Johnston bench works for this room... Hubby wasn't having it... Still love what we had. Fabric was dated, I SOOO wanted new stuff... (You think I would be happy with all I have just gotten? Nope, tryed for one more!) WELL, didn't work. Compromise, re-upholstered the love seat & chair in Johnston bench work fabrics... Pictures on that later..
The cabinet in the back has been in hubby's family since about 1880! How cool is that, his mom left it to me when she passed away. I am soo blessed!

What a mess... but not for long!
OK now for a little tease, FINALLY.... Steven had school then work, so really without him not much I could move myself.... though I did get this in... My butter churn, I got this from my SIL last fall, so it's hasn't really had home until now.....

How cool is this? Love it!

Of course this will probably change some how, but it's something else for now...
I did a double take this AM when I got up and walked past the room... carpeting, no ugly flooring! It's a beautiful thing.... Thanks for taking this journey with me.
One might say now that this is almost done what will I do with all my time? Maybe craft more? yeah, right, maybe a I will read a book! More to come... OLM

A Blank Canvas!!!!!

FINALLY!!! the fun part begins!!! Well as soon as hubby gets home and he's out of town so no moving of furniture until Friday afternoon! BUMMER!!!!
So here is my blank canvas! Already for priming! So much to move and clean. 11 months of remodeling and an addition leaves a lot of cleaning to do. Especially when one waits to do all the big cleaning until the end... So this will not happen over night. One tosses in a bad back that has been very angry since painting so I am moving slow.....
Some of our stuff has been in the garage since last September. So everything will get cleaned and dusted as it comes in...
Then there is everything in the front room that needs to be moved back down into the new gathering room! So many pictures to come... Now I am off to touch up some of the paint that was chipped with the carpeting going in.... Oh, just a tease! The new curtains, They are from Family Heirloom Weavers, LOVE THEM!!! close up of them later.... Enjoy! OLM

My Yard is a Jungle!

I thought I would share my flower gardens with everyone one last time for the season. I have noticed some of my flowers are starting to show stress and running their course for the summer.

Some of vines have just taken over like never before. I don't know if it's all the heat we had this summer along with it having been so wet. But, my yard is a jungle! There will be A LOT of fall clean up this year! ICK! Not to mention all the weeds, some are as big as the flowers....

Can't help it, it's too hot to be out there pulling them and if I could stand it for awhile, I would be eaten alive the mosquitoes, they are so bad! News is saying it's the worst mosquito outbreak in our area in 20 years. So I have been inside way to much lately.
One might ask what I am getting done? Not much! LOL......

So here is the penny tour, weeds are a bonus! LOL! Here is my bottle tree in the back yard. Morning Glory's reaching over to the stand now.... Took these the other night. These are my Moon Flowers. I wish I would of taken these last week when there was about 20 open one night.
Fun story on these flower... Growing up as a kid in Berkeley IL, a old neighbor gave us these flower pods/seeds for the Moon Flowers. Later when we moved away my mom remembered to take some pods with her for the new house....
After I got married, I took pods and planted them at our first house...Then for awhile, no flowers..none at mom's and we moved in the winter and I didn't think to take any pods...
About 8 years ago, out of the blue mom got flowers, I took the pods that fall and have had them ever since somewhere in my yard. This set of flowers I did not plant. With the addition and everything going on last fall, I did not get any clean up done in the flower beds... So this spring, SURPRISE, flowers came up Right by the new patio and have gone wild!

Now, I should explain if you have never seen them before, moon flowers only open up at night. the flower lasts for one night, then the flower drops off and creates a thorny pod of seeds for the next year... I probably have 100 pods on the branches now. Some are already opening up and dropping seeds... Next year they will be transplanted to a different part of the yard...

close up of 3 of the flowers starting to open up....
Morning Glory's gone wild.....

More Morning Glory's growing up the down spout.. Never have had that happen before....

Growing into the Black eyed Susan's, they are not to happy!

Then this... sweet annie growing out front in my paver bricks.... It's the only plant I got this year, so I let it go...

Inpatients are starting to turn yellow, they are almost spent! It will be perfect timing for Mums!

Thanks for taking a peek and have a great evening! OLM

And just like that......

He was gone again... and by "he" our oldest son Alex left for school this AM... It is do hard to believe as he pulled out of the driveway he is off to start his senior year at Western, IL.... How did this happen, it seems like yesterday we packed up the car to move him there for the first time... Time so fly's by in a blink of a eye....
Now I have to admit, I was ready for him to go back! Never in a million years did I ever think I would say such a thing. Especially 3 short years ago....BUT, he's 22, comes and goes, and enjoys being on his own already. Doesn't like mom in all his business! LOL...He was even more ready to go.....
Though, he will be home for good come December... one more semester and then his internship at a police department and that he will do around here...I don't know that I am ready for him to become a police officer, either.... No choice now! Off he goes..... Truck loaded with a few of his things.....
OK, now about these pictures as we were standing outside this am, Alex and I were talking about the goofy pumpkin/gourd vines growing all over the place. The ones in the tree are just a hoot...everyday there is another gourd growing, I think there is at least 8 in the tree now....LOL I don't know if we will ever be able to get them down before the squirrels get them.. So it's kind hard to see but the yellow is either a gourd or another flower on the vine....

OK, wrong order on these, this is the gourd growing out of my flower pot and how big it is now...

oops forgot to upload the picture of it as a baby... oh well.. sorry.. brain just isn't working. It's to quite here! It will take a little bit to get use to it again...
My younger son Steven goes to college year around. He actually will be done first this March, so right after Alex left, he was up & out to met with his career advisor... YIKES to much in just one AM! LOL Oh well... I am off to the Country Store to get my switch plates for the gathering room! Have a great day! OLM

Textile Swap goodies here! and a bonus box! LOL

Today was a great mail and UPS day for me!!! First I participated in the textile swap Char at the pickled pepper patch organized! Actually Char was my partner! How lucky am I?!
She does great needle work! Though, I am still trying to figure out how she gets it all done! If you have been following her blogs, she rehabbing a house, and her daughter just got married!
I am not that organized!
Anyway so here is my package today in the mail! Couldn't wait to open it up to see what was waiting for me! First look at this great penny rug candle mat Char made! Love it!
Then 2 great pillow tucks for fall, again love them!

Love the framed stitchery of peace and Plenty! Again she did it! There is Santa's PJ's! Super cute! those little rug beaters were tucked in my package as well!

Then there is the runner she made and the silicone bulbs! This was a great package! thanks, Char!

Then, I don't know if you have been following Notforgotten Farms blog and as well as Millstone Mercantile... Robin over at Millstone has been moving her shop in with Lori at Notforgotten. They were posting updates on the progress of the shop...
Well, I "eye spied" a great old red box, I felt it spoke to me! LOL.... (really I need things to stop speaking to me! The pocket book can't handle it!) anyway, emailed Robin asking if it was for sale, of course it was! So that arrived today as well! it will look great in the gathering room!
Love the colors! It is bigger then it looked in the picture. This is just a great old box! Can't wait to display with it! Then Robin added a few extra goodies for me as well to show me what she crafts! Bonus day for me!
Love the coloring on this box!

Lid open, it has a shelf in it too!
Well it's going to have to wait until next weekend to find a home :(... No carpeting until a week from today! Oh well, I have waited this long what's a couple more days... So by next weekend things will really be changing around here.... Have a great night... Need to check dinner. Alex is getting his "fav's" 2nite. He goes back to college on Friday! OLM

There's nothing Prim about painting walls!

There is nothing fun or primitive about painting walls... Well, I will just say it, IT SUCKS! It's so much work and takes so much time! I know the end result it worth it, I am just so slow at it.

Not to mention I hurt my back several years ago, torn a disc, haven't worked since, so should I really be painting? Yes if I want to get the room done, so there I am painting like a mad person! LOL...

Everyone is saying don't rush, it's been almost a year what's another week, REALLY ANOTHER WEEK? Not happening. If all goes well, and the carpet guys ever calls me back, there WILL BE carpeting this week! LOL

So out of bed, right into painting clothes, nice side view, thanks hubby, could we make this any less flattering? Like my little hidden message on the wall? That wasn't even planned...
Now painting wainscoting, time consuming for sure. I think I started by 10am. We stopped for about 45 minutes at 3:30, that's when everything had a first coat.
Then we painted for another 2 hours.... The back wall has 2 coats, all the trim has 2 coats, so we are close. With any luck we should finish tomorrow night. I am just bushed, as I am sure hubby is. Lets just hope I can walk good enough tomorrow to paint! LOL back wall all done...I love the colors, it's just a different combo with the beige and sage together. I think it will look great once everything else is in place....
Here I am starting, again thanks hubby for that great side view!

Paybacks, hubby on his knees painting base trim!

Oh just a few more days and we will never have to look at this UGLY floor again. Amazing that we could put up with it for so long!

Have a great evening, I am off to lay down and pray the back doesn't show it's angry side tomorrow! OLM
